Price For Super Bowl Seats
If you’re planning to attend the super bowl, you have my envy. And my sympathies. The price for superbowl tickets is expected to be simply astronomical this year. And that’s just the official prices. For the second year in a row, Super Bowl tickets are expected cost $1,000 at the official prices. So says the National Football League in a report on ESPN.COM. Fully 25% of the tickets are expected to cost over a grand a piece.
The trouble of course is not even the official prices, which are themselves nothing short of outrageous, but the difficulty in actually obtaining tickets as well. Even the Baseball world series will offer fans a chance to buy bleacher seats for a relatively affordable price and if you get there early enough, you can buy the tickets. However, since football is a sport played just once a week and the Super Bowl is a one day event, even snagging tickets at the official price is unbelievably difficult.
Of course, if the situation this year ends up being similar to last years’ superbowl in Tampa, then we can expect that tickets will at least be easier to come by, albeit still very expensive. Fans will recall that last year the tickets were practically given away since the two teams who were playing, Phoenix and Pittsburgh were not the favorites of the league. Then again, that is a relative term, since the price of tickets for last years’ Superbowl just a week or so before the game was ranging in the $1,500 – $2,000 range.
By way of comparison, the very first Superbowl, 44 years ago in the Los Angeles Coliseum was an unbelievable bargain. The cost of seats for that game were just $6, $10 and $12. In 1988, the cost of a ticket exceeded $100 officially and the Superbowl was officially on its way to being something only the wealthy or the insane could afford to attend.
Instead of worrying about the price of Superbowl tickets this year, maybe you should consider just having a Superbowl party. I find that even though I love going to the games and feeling the excitement in person, I can enjoy myself just as much when I sit at home with a group of friends, a keg of beer and a pile of wings and nachos in front of us. Whatever your plans are for Super Bowl Sunday though, make it a great one.
