Is softball too hard?
Call me silly, but I think that softball is too hard. I hate these stupid stories about how Jennie Finch struck out male baseball players or that so-and-so pitched 50 perfect games this season. When a pro or even college ball player pitches a perfect game it’s like they cured cancer, but softball players do it all the time.
So softball purists, feel free to rag on me all you want, but I had a thought. No one watches softball. People would rather pay money to watch paint dry. At least people will pony up a few bucks to watch the WNBA so you can’t pull the gender card. My hypothesis is that softball moves too fast and favors the pitching team. What if we moved the mound back a few yards. More hitting, pitching would be more difficult. It might even be fun to watch.
You softball players can hate on me all you want. I guess i deserve it, but I am just making an honest observation and a suggestion.
See…Softball doesn’t even have a category.
Softball is a competitive game just like any other game and I think very entertaining to watch. It’s a much quicker game than baseball, a average game lasts only about and hour and twenty minutes. I wouldn’t say it is too hard, but it’s definetly a game that takes talent. You have to compare baseball and softball in a ratio:
take a baseball player that throws 95mph at 60ft and a softball pitcher that throws 65mph at 45ft. That gives the baseball batter 1.5 seconds to react and the softball batter 1.4 seconds to react. The baseball hitters are just not use to an underarm throw coming at that quick of a speed, just as a softball player would have a hard time reacting to a baseball throw.
Perfect games are also a lot fewer than you think. Softball is just a little harder to hit, baseball a little easier. It would be no different than this…softball players get very excited to get a couple hits in a row, because it’s harder; baseball players usually get pretty excited when 2-3 hitters are struck out in a row cause that’s harder.
As to why we don’t get the viewers, I really don’t know. I think theres’ a lot of people out there that don’t really understand the game. But who knows.
