QUALIFICATIONS More than 20 years overall experience and 10 years managerial experience working at publications of various sizes, including the last seven at a metropolitan daily newspaper. Experienced editor, beat reporter, column writer and page designer. Additional radio and television background. Skilled in Page Speed, Speed Writer and various other Mac and PC-based computer programs.

PROFESSIONAL Experience 2001 to 2008 — Senior copy editor, Des Moines Register
Responsibilities included day-to-day copy editing, page design, reporting and online work in sports and news. Special projects work beyond these tasks included initiating and overseeing the Register’s baseball coverage. Some highlights are:

  • Did a daily diary of a major leaguer for the Register’s spring training coverage.
  • Co-initiated, coordinated and hosted a baseball roundtable of Iowa major and minor leaguers, generating print and online coverage.
  • Co-coordinated and produced Iowa baseball trip, leading to print and online coverage of state icons such as Bob Feller and the “Field of Dreams.”
  • Reported and coordinated coverage of annual triple-A Iowa Cubs convention, which has featured 31 major league Hall of Famers over its nine years.
  • Wrote numerous travel articles on various destinations for the Register’s features department and did freelance writing for other publications around the Midwest.

  • 1992-2001 — Sports editor, Fond du Lac (Wis.) Reporter
    Supervised staff of five; produced pages via Atex pagination system using Quark XPress. Job responsibilities were managing the department, including short- and long-range planning, scheduling and assignment editing. Also did regular copy editing and page design and column writing as well as reporting as needed.
