I consider it a privilege and great honor to share a few thoughts about my friend Mr. Greg Shriver, otherwise known as the World’s Most Knowledgeable Cubs Fan!

Greg has influenced my life for more than a decade, in settings both professional and personal. Many a time we have shared long thought-provoking conversations ranging from politics to faith, from sports to the theater and of course his kind of town, Chicago. Through his superior knowledge and understanding of any subject matter, Greg is always a given for great conversation and memorable story telling.

The information I have been blessed to receive and learn from Greg has proven to be invaluable. I’ll never forget learning how to finally use verbs during my short tenure working for Greg as a sportswriter at the Fond du Lac Reporter. His GPS-like abilities to navigate Chicago are second to none and have saved me numerous dollars and hours.

Greg is compassionate; committed to excellence; never settles for mediocrity; pays attention to detail (even to a fault) and performs with accurate consistency. He exemplifies the highest standard of what it means to be a loyal friend.

Although unsuccessful in my endeavors to prevent Greg from annual baseball depression, I have found his personal integrity and unwillingness to sell his soul to the Tribune Company to be a great source of strength.

When it comes to friendships, Greg is first class!

Thanks, Greg! God’s blessing to you and Janice.
