We had the good fortune to have Greg Shriver as a member of our newsroom staff at The Reporter newspaper for a bit more than eight years, from September 1992 through January 2001. His departure was truly a loss for our news operation.
For the most part, Greg served as the newspaper’s sports editor in his years here in Fond du Lac, Wis., but his role went much further than the boundaries of the sports desk. He was a key member of the staff of senior editors, the group called upon to make difficult day-to-day decisions and to formulate long-range plans for the good of the total news operation. Not only was Greg an authority on local and state sports, he also was attuned to local government, activities in the community, national politics and the arts, especially movies. I marveled at his knowledge of and regard for the power of movies.
Bottom line, he is a man of diverse interests, and that in itself makes him an especially interesting person. Greg is a master storyteller. It’s one of the traits I most appreciate about him. He has a boundless work ethic, exceptional organizational skills, a razor-sharp wit and an infectious sense of humor. He’s fun to be with whether it’s in the workplace or at a social gathering.
If I had my way, I would bring Greg back on our news/information center staff in the blink of an eye. He has a special ability to bring out the best in those around him. I could go on and on, but I think the point is made. Greg Shriver is a person of remarkable value in the workplace and in the community. He is a man worth getting to know.
Sincerely,
