Baseball Baseline Dimensions

Are there any specific rules for how a baseball field is configures or groomed?

I’m not talking about dimensions of the baselines, the mound, and so forth. I’m talking about things like where the infield grass ends, the grass around the mound, the dirt lane between the mound and plate in some parks, etc.

Also, is there are specific reason why some parks have the dirt lane between the mound and the plate and some do not?

It’s likely completely optional. You can have FieldTurf or Grass. Usually fields without dirt running lanes are Artificial Turf fields with only sliding pits like Rogers Centre in Toronto. It’s all preference, like how in Detroit and Arizona they have “keyholes” or lanes from the pitcher’s mound to home. The reason for this is because cricket was related to baseball, and in cricket they had these lanes to make a lane for the pitch. It became more of a “for show” thing in later years. Now only two parks have it.

It is very easy to get into the habit of pulling off the ball. This is especially true for power hitters. Have you ever seen a power hitter hit a home run and thereafter, he can’t couch the ball? What happened? The home run took him out of himself. So as he pivots, he is also pivoting his head. Read the rest of it here: Click Here
